ReedPop is seeking a Commerce Editor to create and manage buying advice for our digital portfolio, based on our deals site Jelly Deals but working across our core sites of Eurogamer, VG247, Rock Paper Shotgun, and Dicebreaker.
The successful candidate, supported by the Commerce Writer, will be finding and curating deals and buying advice for our existing audience of over 60 million monthly users in the UK and US, and creating in-depth, trusted guides for a global audience reaching them via search. This is a role with considerable potential for growth.
The primary focus will be gaming-related products and services - ReedPop's editorial output is built on trusted, in-depth coverage of the gaming sector, and it’s vital that our buying advice lives up to our reputation - but the Commerce Editor will also be identifying and posting deals and buying advice that suits the broader interests of our audience, including technology and lifestyle products.
As the leader of the commercial content team, they will drive the creation of commercial content across our core sites, manage the Commerce Writer and a team of contractors, monitor the performance of content and generate regular reports and guidance for the business.
This role requires existing experience in online writing and publishing, particularly in SEO, and would suit an established section editor or senior writer looking to take the next step in their career as part of a market-leading and fast-growing media company.
Sourcing and posting deals and offers that our audience will be interested in, across our core sites
Organising and creating buyer’s guides and deals content, assisted by the Commerce Writer
Identifying new opportunities and creating features and coverage around them, including seasonal events and new product launches
Liasing with the Editors-in-Chief across the business to ensure timely posting of relevant articles
Ensuring that commercial editorial is relevant and valuable to our audiences, and finding new opportunities and content ideas
Directing and managing the Commerce Writer, as well as commissioning and editing a team of freelancers and contractors
Tracking, analysing and reporting on performance of commercial content for the management team
Driving the growth of the commercial content team, as directed by the Audience Development Manager
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated self-starter, who is ready to contribute to our biggest and most respected websites and establish a new editorial team within the business. It requires close relationships with multiple internal teams, including editorial, tech and audience.
Required skills and experience
Proven experience in digital writing and publishing, with commercial content experience an advantage
Ability to work as part of a team, and build effective relationships with multiple editorial teams across the business
Great communication skills for working with stakeholders internally and externally
Deep understanding of SEO
An understanding of the ReedPop audience and how it differs between sites
Knowledge of the current gaming and consumer technology market
Knowledge of Google Analytics
Knowledge of content management systems
Desirable skills and experience
Deep knowledge of the current consumer technology and gaming market
Existing experience with affiliate tools and networks such as Skimlinks, Awin, Rakuten etc
Knowledge of Wordpress and associated SEO tools such as Yoast
Experience of managing writers or leading an editorial team
Understanding of social media and how to build an audience on Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Experience in building, managing and editing a team of editorial contractors and freelancers.
