Job role/purpose:

Work closely with our business units across the world including local M&A and commercial teams to provide impactful transaction and commercial advice and drive effective and efficient operational execution of acquisitions and robust commercial planning with the goal of achieving RX’s ambitious growth plans.

The Role:

  • Work with business unit commercial management and business development teams to progress acquisitions (and divestments) through the pipeline from target identification to negotiation and closing
  • Work closely with the local M&A and commercial teams to create acquisition models and high-quality investment papers including valuation analyses, testing of financial projections and robustness of underlying commercial planning
  • The role will include negotiations with counter parties, working through transaction contracts and creating solutions to issues identified in negotiations and due diligence
  • Prepare acquisition submissions to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of RX
  • Interact with RELX Corporate Finance, Tax and Treasury groups to ensure that RX’s proposals follow the relevant guidelines, and information regarding structure and funding is communicated in a timely manner
  • Liaise with RX Group Finance team to ensure that all accounting aspects of M&A transactions are identified and agreed
  • Establish best practices on the identification and execution of transactions across RX
  • Interact with selected professional advisors on all aspects of due diligence and contract work
  • Work with business unit CEOs and management to provide regular, data driven recommendations on optimal future portfolio composition including acquisition targets, launch opportunities and divestments / cancellations
  • Review new launch plans in line with RX global strategy and criteria; regular analysis of KPIs and recommendations to
  • ensure success.
  • Lead ad hoc commercial projects ranging from market entry / exit assessments, business unit/portfolio performance reviews, potential JVs/partnerships and global competitor analyses

The Candidate:

  • Distinguished education and ideally advanced academic training (e.g., MBA, accounting qualification)
  • Experience in transactional services, investment banking or business development specialising in M&A
  • Solid commercial understanding of financial markets and macro environment. 
  • A strong intellect, capable of rapidly assimilating the key drivers within a transaction and/or commercial plans
  • Demonstrable experience of negotiating transactions terms, developing structures, and drafting investment documentation
  • Pragmatic approach with the ability to form relationships easily and use influence to get things done; proven excellence at stakeholder management (both internal and external)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the presence to challenge existing orthodoxies
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to support business decisions
  • Creative thinker with the ability to work well autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team and across different cultures
  • Passionate go-getter, and with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing a breadth of projects.
  • Comfortable working as part of a highly committed, collegiate and professional Head Office team with a focus on excellence.
  • Ability to travel globally
