ReedPop is looking for a Deputy Editor for VG247 to help lead the site alongside the Editor-in-Chief, developing and identifying opportunities for traffic and audience growth, upholding the unique style and values of the site and continuing to redefine what a video game website can be.
You will also be required to regularly write news, reviews, features, and guides, as well as constructing pages to best SEO guidelines.
VG247 has built a reputation for delivering the best fast-paced consumer news in the games industry, across interviews, features and analysis, and has pushed successfully into the crowded guides market.
The successful applicant will have substantial video game journalism or published writing experience, preferably as an online section editor, be full of talent, ambition and ideas to produce, report on and reflect the vibrant games industry. You must be commercially minded and have SEO experience.
As a Deputy Editor, you will work with, and when necessary direct, our highly experienced editorial team and freelancers, with day-to-day support from the Editor-in-Chief (EiC). You’ll be working closely with the EiC to create and implement new strategies to grow traffic on VG247, create and structure guides, features and other content that will retain and grow our readership. You will also be required to help drive video output by appearing in videos and the podcast.
To identify new growth opportunities for VG247 both editorially and commercially.
To create deep and complete video game guides to the biggest games being released.
To source your own stories and conduct interviews with developers, publishers, retailers and other leading games industry sectors, where applicable.
To support the EiC on a daily basis, to run VG247 in the EIC's absence.
Deliver accurate, clear and concise copy to hourly, daily and weekly deadlines, following well defined editorial standards.
Embed within game communities to spot potential stories and content.
Edit video, broadcast and stream gameplay footage.
Work closely with PRs and other contacts to go deeper on stories and articles.
Work in our CMS to make sure stories meet a high standard of presentation.
Collaborate with the entire editorial team on all aspects of our coverage.
Required Skills and Experience:
Substantial previous experience launching, resdesigning, editing or leading the direction of an entertainment website or section.
Managing other staff, inspiring them and pushing them to produce their best work.
An understanding of how the business of video games operates - which products sell strongly, latest industry trends and the key players in the market.
Ability to identify the next big game or developer.
Willingness to secure interviews and ask tough questions.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Strong work ethic with a high degree of determination and drive.
Positive attitude and a team mentality.
Passion and excitement about video games and the industry.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
A journalism qualification or degree in a relevant subject.
Video streaming experience and experience with sites such as Twitch, YouTube etc.
