We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, flexible and dynamic legal counsel to join the existing RX legal department (comprising three senior lawyers and a paralegal) on a permanent basis. You will have a proven track record of exceeding targets and meeting deadlines, and a tenacious and practical ‘can do’ approach to finding solutions to problems which arise.
Negotiating and drafting commercial contracts and precedents e.g. supplier terms, customer contracts, IT contracts, licence agreements, digital product terms, agency and sales agreements and consultancy arrangements.
Advising on data privacy issues related to virtual and physical events in conjunction with RX DPO and RELX privacy office, including GDPR issues arising thereto.
Reviewing business practices and monitoring/advising on compliance with data protection legislation (GDPR), anti-bribery, Companies Act, EU/US sanctions and health and safety legislation.
Advising on trade mark registrations and clearance; trade mark reviews on site at events and on websites and media channels; assisting RELX central trade mark office with requests for information/proof of use.
Advising on copyright issues and other IP matters, including use of social media, content for online/print magazines, use of YouTube and other media channels.
Assisting RELX company secretariat with company secretarial matters.
Assisting with litigation and disputes, including commercial disputes, insurance claims, IP infringement claims, including instructing and managing external lawyers, where appropriate.
Reviewing and advising on corporate matters, such as joint venture agreements.
Ideal candidate profile:
Minimum 3+ years PQE solicitor, trained in private practice with experience in commercial/IP law
Ability to be flexible and to prioritise
Enthusiastic and professional
Excellent organisational skills
Attention to detail and ability to learn and understand the business
Ability and willingness to communicate effectively with all areas of the business and different stakeholders
Ability to work as part of a team and also independently in a supportive environment
Self-motivated and able to respond to urgent requirements and to escalate matters, where appropriate
Strong written and oral communication skills, including excellent drafting skills and experience in negotiating and advising on commercial contracts, standard terms of business, website/media channel terms and conditions, advertising contracts, contributor agreements, IT contracts, licence agreements, joint ventures and partnerships
Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines

Experience in events industry would be an advantage but are not essential
