ReedPop's leading PC games website, Rock Paper Shotgun, is looking for a News Reporter to join its team of writers and video makers, and expand its best-in-class news coverage.

Reporting on games and their communities – both before and after release – has become an increasingly important focus for our coverage at RPS, and this role will involve researching and writing multiple news stories per day, as well as producing longer-form original reporting that highlights the ambitious and complex stories from the world of PC gaming.

As a News Reporter, you will work within our highly experienced editorial team, with day-to-day support from our editors. Your responsibilities will include selecting and writing stories that resonate with our audience, being prolific within tight deadlines, unearthing stories others have missed from PC gaming's many active communities, and interviewing and developing sources to break stories first.

The successful applicant will have some journalism or published news writing experience. What’s important is that they should be able to bring personality and reflection to their reporting, while being clear and precise with facts. They will be full of talent, ambition and drive to report on the vibrant world of PC gaming.

When applying, please include sample links to your previous writing.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Produce multiple news stories per day on Rock Paper Shotgun, with sparkling copy designed to inform and entertain.

  • Work closely with our editors to source, research and write your own news stories, conduct interviews and investigate stories that matter to our readers.

  • Deliver accurate, clear and concise copy to deadline, following well defined editorial standards, while also offering a fresh voice on our site.

  • Embed within game communities to spot potential stories. Be deep into some things and be willing to throw yourself into what you don't already know.

  • Work in our CMS to make sure stories meet a high standard of presentation.

  • Collaborate with the entire editorial team on all aspects of our coverage.

  • Contribute to wider editorial output as required, such as previews and features.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable talent for good writing and reporting.

  • Ability to unearth and tell interesting stories about games and their communities.

  • Willingness to secure interviews and ask tough questions.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of determination and drive.

  • Positive attitude and a team mentality.

  • Passion and excitement about video games and gaming culture.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • A journalism qualification or degree in a relevant subject.

  • Knowledge of the games industry itself, with a clear interest in the sector.

  • An interest in the technology, entertainment and lifestyle sectors in general.
